My favorite season for self-care is winter. There’s just something about the cozy season that bodes well for gentle and kind reset days for self care. As someone who believes in a slow living lifestyle, complete with self-care, I often include more cozy self care in the winter months.

Even just the smallest things like using my favorite fluffy blanket while snuggled up on the couch with a book. Or, wearing my favorite fuzzy socks around the house on an intentionally slow day. And, sitting down to journal with my favorite winter scented candle.

Whatever the case for your cozy self-care, winter makes for such a lovely time of year to just be intentional and slow and cozy and in this article, you’ll discover more ways to enjoy self care during these months.

Cozy Winter Self Care Ideas

01. Create a Winter Morning Ritual

Give yourself something small to look forward to on cold mornings. Make your favorite warm drink, turn on a lamp instead of harsh overhead lighting, wrap up in a robe or blanket, and spend ten quiet minutes reading, journaling, praying, or simply waking up slowly. Your morning doesn’t have to begin at full speed.

02. Have a No-Plans Winter Evening

Choose one evening when you intentionally have nowhere to be and nothing productive to accomplish. Put on pajamas early, order dinner or make something easy, silence unnecessary notifications, and settle in with a movie, book, puzzle, or comfort show. Sometimes self-care is simply giving yourself permission to be unavailable.

03. Make Yourself a Winter Comfort Basket

Fill a basket with things you reach for when you need a little extra comfort: fuzzy socks, hand cream, lip balm, a book, tea bags, chocolate, a heating pad, a journal, or your favorite cozy blanket. Keep it beside your bed or sofa so your little comforts are waiting for you when you need them.

04. Take a Quiet Winter Walk

Bundle up and head outside without worrying about steps, calories, or exercise goals. Pay attention to bare trees, winter birds, cold air, crunchy leaves, cloudy skies, and all the tiny things you normally walk past. Even ten minutes outside can feel like a reset when you treat the walk as a chance to notice instead of accomplish.

05. Start a Cozy Winter Hobby

Winter is the perfect season for something slow and creative. Try embroidery, watercolor, crochet, baking bread, puzzles, sketching, junk journaling, hand lettering, or making things from felt. Pick something you can enjoy badly, too. You don’t need to turn every hobby into something you’re good at or something you can sell.

06. Create a Winter Reading Hour

Pick one evening a week to put your phone somewhere else and read for an hour. Make tea or cocoa, grab a blanket, dim the lights, and settle into a good book. It can be a novel, memoir, devotional, poetry collection, or even an old favorite you’ve read ten times. The point is to slow your brain down for a while.

07. Romanticize an Ordinary Winter Dinner

You don’t need a special occasion to make dinner feel lovely. Make a big pot of soup, chili, pasta, or another comforting meal, light a candle, use the pretty bowls, and put on music while you eat. Turning an ordinary Tuesday dinner into a tiny event is such an underrated form of self-care.

08. Have a Phone-Free Snow Day Without the Snow

Pretend you’ve been snowed in, even if the roads outside are perfectly clear. Stay home when you can, put your phone away for a few hours, make something warm to eat, watch an old movie, play a game, read, nap, or work on a craft. Think childhood snow-day energy, except now you get to make the rules.

09. Make Your Bedroom Extra Cozy

Give your bedroom a little winter reset. Wash your sheets, fluff your pillows, add an extra blanket, clear off your nightstand, and put something comforting nearby like a book or hand cream. You don’t need a whole bedroom makeover. A clean, cozy place to crawl into at the end of the day can make winter evenings feel infinitely better.

10. Keep a Tiny Winter Journal

Forget pages and pages of journaling if that feels like homework. Write down three or four sentences each evening about your day. What felt good? What was difficult? What did you notice? What do you want to remember? By spring, you’ll have a sweet little record of a season that might otherwise have blurred together.

11. Make a Pot of Something That Simmered All Day

There’s something incredibly comforting about knowing dinner is quietly cooking while you go about your day. Make slow-cooker soup, stew, pot roast, beans, or another cozy meal that fills the house with a good smell. Bonus points for making enough to freeze a portion for a future day when cooking feels like too much.

12. Give Yourself an At-Home Quiet Day

Instead of filling every free day with errands and catching up, designate one as a quiet day. Wear comfortable clothes, keep the TV low or off, make simple food, read, nap, stretch, journal, craft, or just putter around the house. A day doesn’t have to be productive to be worthwhile.

13. Create a Winter Comfort Playlist

Make a playlist specifically for slow winter days. Choose songs that make you feel peaceful, nostalgic, hopeful, or cozy rather than whatever happens to be trending. Play it while cooking, cleaning, driving, journaling, or getting ready for bed. Music can completely change the atmosphere of an ordinary day.

14. Have a Little Afternoon Tea Break

Around that sleepy mid-afternoon point, stop what you’re doing and make yourself something warm. Tea, coffee, cider, cocoa, or even warm lemon water works. Add a little snack and sit down somewhere comfortable for fifteen minutes. No scrolling and no multitasking. Just have your drink and let yourself exist for a minute.

15. Make a Winter “Not Doing” List

Self-care isn’t always about adding another thing to your schedule. Make a list of things you’re giving yourself permission not to do this season. Maybe you’re not saying yes to every invitation, keeping up with every trend, answering messages immediately, maintaining a spotless house, or forcing yourself to be productive every weekend. Protecting your energy counts too.

16. Revisit Something You Loved as a Kid

Winter nostalgia can be surprisingly comforting. Watch a movie you loved growing up, make a childhood snack, pull out an old board game, color, build a puzzle, reread a favorite book, or listen to music you haven’t heard in years. Sometimes caring for yourself means reconnecting with a version of you who knew how to enjoy something simply because it was fun.

17. Plan a Personal Winter Retreat

Set aside half a day, an evening, or even just a couple of hours that belong completely to you. Make comforting food, put your phone on Do Not Disturb, journal about how you’re feeling, think about what you want from the next few months, read, pray, create, or rest. Don’t turn it into an intense goal-setting session. Let it be a chance to check in with yourself and quietly reset before stepping back into everyday life.

Lean Into the Coziness of the Cold Months

In the end, making the winter months all about cozy, warm, and happy with self care and intentionality doesn’t take a lot of effort or special items even, it’s just about finding those small simple things to make your soul happy and well taken care of.

I hope the ideas in this list help you to find those special ways of making yourself feel well taken care of during the colder months of the year.
